Gynecology After Menopause

As we age it is only natural for our bodies to experience many changes. For women, this means also changing the way that you think about common occurrences such as your yearly gynecological examinations. Your gynecologist will consider your age as a factor for different types of gynecologic conditions, as many become more common for women of a mature age.

A majority of women who bear a child or multiple children during their lifetime will encounter issues with the strength of their pelvic floor. This often leads to issues of urinary or fecal incontinence.

Sadly, very few ladies will come forward about their troubling symptoms out of embarrassment. Even though it may be difficult, you should never avoid speaking to Dr. B or Dr. about a condition that is making your day-to-day life any harder than it needs to be, especially when they are able to offer plenty of suitable treatment options to mitigate your discomfort!

Osteoporosis Screenings

Over 25% of women over the age of 65 will develop osteoporosis. This condition causes the bones to degenerate and weaken, leading to a much greater risk for potential fractures and breaks. A woman with osteoporosis may sustain a severe break in the bone after a simple fall or other accident, which can make completing everyday tasks extremely worrisome.

The first step to managing osteoporosis is to accurately diagnose those who have it. This can be accomplished by receiving a DEXA screening for osteoporosis. This particular scan is able to determine the density of an individual’s bones, which will reveal whether or not they are more prone to breaking. It is recommended for seniors to complete a DEXA scan at least once per year.

Menopause Management

Every woman will at some point transition through menopause. This change typically occurs near age 40-50, and may take up to several years before symptoms cease.

It is common for women to experience a wide variety of different symptoms during all stages of menopause as their bodies react to a decrease in hormone levels that eventually leads to an end in menstruation.

There are multiple treatment options available to help alleviate common symptoms of menopause such as:

  • Vaginal dryness.
  • Hot flashes.
  • Night sweats.
  • Irregular menstrual cycles.
